So I finally got my yaks on my car and took a test drive with them on my roof. With the help of my trusty scout guide, I learned the barrel knot and I believe I tied everything pretty well. At least nothing fell off when I hit 60 on the freeway. I'll be testing them out soon with my dad and then by spring break I am ready to hit my favorite spots only accessible by boat (or in this case kayak as well!)

Looks good. I bet the fuel economy can't be beat.
The bow and stern lines are definentelythe way do it and will keep the things from slipping out if the 2 lines over the middle slip or break. Just wondering... it looks like they are being held on by hooks only, around the handle of the yaks? You're not worried the car might bounce on a bump, and the hook will come loose from the handle and hit the windshield?

Actually we replaced the hooks with...I believe you call them Caribiners...something like that. I had extra from my climbing days. But yes, I was afraid of that happening though if I were to ratchet it well enough it should have been ok. Now I just have to make sure the handle doesn't come off. :PResident Ninja

Very nice, the only thing I'd recommend, and you might already have it, is a cable lock long enough to go around the rack and through both scuppers(holes) on both. It'll give you some sense of security on those over night trips and hotel parking lots. Not saying it'll stop a determined thief, but it will make it that much harder.
I just recently made a yak/beach trailer...you'll be wanting one after a few trips I predict, but in the meantime...enjoy them both, looks sharp!Don't be a Nancy!
If it smells like fish....you know I've been there!
