  • GISP 3-19-11 Morning topwater

Well, I've really been trying to catch something (anything) at the park lately, but I've been skunked every time I went. I haven't caught anything this year!!

I gathered my gear and headed back to the park again this morning. I made the long hike up the peninsula between Oak Bayou & Dana Cove and looked around. The wind was calm and there wasn't much happening. Since I hit the cove Thursday evening with no results I decided to wade the bayou instead. Once I headed toward the bayou I could see a little bait moving so I put on a mullet Super Spook and started working it. Nothing. The water was a little muddy, so I figured a little color might be in order. I put on an old chartreuse topwater with an orange top that I've never used before and started walking the dog. I had about 5 blowups, but nothing took the bait. At 8 the bayou turned on and I caught my first speck of the year, 20". Nice fight, too, but it broke my favorite rod (light casting Castaway).
Anyway, I usually have at least 2 rods with me, but not today. I learned my lesson on that one!Click image for larger version

Well, I couldn't stand it! I picked up a new rod tip and epoxied it on my rod this morning. I went back and fished in the fog and wind and wound up catching her twin on a chartreuse mirrolure suspending twitch bait!!
Sorry, no pix on this one: forgot the camera!
