  • A Pig and a Permit

We ferried some kayaks into a remote marsh I had never been to over the weekend (report coming soon). I don't know if I have ever seen so much bait in one place. Shrimp, shad, mullet and crabs were everywhere. With the low water the fish were going nuts blowing up on bait all around us and we saw plenty of backs before the tide pushed in. I managed to catch my heaviest redfish on fly thus far a 29"+ pig. I caught two fish that were longer last fall but this one outweighed both by over a pound.

In the afternoon we did a test run in another friend's offshore boat making sure everything was functioning properly. Can't wait for summer. Plenty of offshore trips with buggy whip await. After we docked the boats we noticed plenty of big sheepies up on the surface feeding off the barnacles. They would't touch a shrimp pattern but as soon as we tied on a crab we got bit. We put a hook in at least a half dozen but only landed one due to break-offs and pulled hooks.
