Not a lot of people are going to give up that info but the basics for beginners would be to find a protected shoreline. Concentrate on areas that have drains, active bait and a hard sand bottom and areas with abrupt depth changes. Keep it all simple and don't go out with hi expactations. You may even step on a few untill you figure out what you are doing.

If you find a honey hole you can brag but don't tell where it is or the next time it may be fished out.
If you have a boat you can even navigate out to known shallow shell reefs and sand bars to get away from the shorelines that are worked over by the drive up crowds, get out of the boat and work the area over on foot.

Never expect a limit everytime you go out...that is a common misconception that a gigger limits every night-it's just not going to happen but sometimes we do damn well.
    Good luck.

Not that much different than a Karankawa indian hunting the shallows at night with a torch and a spear.

Find you a protected South shoreline, with clear water and sandy bottom, if that don't work, try a North one!
