  • A day of firsts

I made my inaugural offshore trip with Glenn and his nephew Nathan yesterday. The seas were supposed to be 1-2 but they were a solid 2-3s and it was a long ride out. Took us about 2 hours to get to the spot but we were still the first boat there.
We tied off and dropped lines and immediately started catching small snapper. We had to go through a bunch to get our limits but finally did. We chummed up some Mangroves and caught a few on light tackle, which was a lot of fun. We caught one nice king on a flat line and missed a couple of others.
The boat beside us caught 2 HUGE mangroves....15+ on ribbon fish.
We ran out and did some trolling and caught another big king. While trolling, Glenn and I were just chilling and saw a big black shape coming at us and it got to the boat and turned about 5' away from us. It was a 5-6' sailfish. What an awesome sight to see. Glenn said he has never seen one in the gulf. We watched it chase something around the boat about 50 - 100yds out and were in awe. I wasn't thinking quickly enough to get a video while she was close but kinda got one when she was about 100 yds out. In the first few seconds you can barely see her bill and sail come out of the water.
Finally headed back in with much better seas for the ride back in.
    First for the day
    First Red Snapper
    First Mangrove Snapper
    First King
    First Ling (not a keeper)
    First Amberjack
    First time seeing a sailfish
Thanks for taking me out there Glenn!

WTG Glenn and Chip-really did well. I am disapointed we didn't make a tandem trip. It was bumpy on way out and after about 35 minutes, we switched plans to stay close in-certainly looks like we should have kept heading out!! Yall did good!!

Glenn; Next time let's try to tandem. PM me next time a window opens and you are gonna head out. Nice trip ya did!!
