  • Gigging in August

    This is my favorite month.
It's to hot , at least for me to stand under a beating sun doing the chunk and wind so naturally it's time to go nocturn.
What I like about august nights are the wide verity of marine life I come across. It's like every species of weirdness becomes hyper active this month more than in any other.
Wither it's marine turtles, snakes, eels, crabs, birds, coyotes , rays other than southerns, flounder other than southerns, stoneys, blues and hermits... This is truly the month to see something unusual more than any other so get out there and enjoy it with a moon burn.

Not that much different than a Karankawa indian hunting the shallows at night with a torch and a spear.

I have a 12v system, the fan engine turns a alternator so it's just like a car and that limits the watts I can push. My case dictates my best lighting at approx 550wts of halos. If you are serious about using a genny on the water and the often damp conditions associated with the humid coastal night air you can literally be playing with your life but with common sense and safeguards put in place like remote ballast and GFI's it can be done safely. If you do wind up using a genny then the absolute best lighting system to penetrate our turbid waters is "High Pressure Sodium fixtures" As for me, at least as for now I'll stick with my simple 12v. It's safe and surprisingly effective.
Paul, I am talking to you.
Maybe we can work our channel Sunday night.
