  • Fly Report 8/8-8/12

I fished the north shoreline back lakes from Jones to Greensall this week. Fished from 6 till about10 a.m. each day. Tide was high and thewind was light in the early morning increasing to 15 or so by 10. The water was very dirty most places. Don’t know the actual water temps but wasn’t “bathtub”hot yet. Tons of small reds everywhere.I had to pull myself away from schools of small ones to find the bigger slotreds. I found a few schools of verydecent reds from 24-26”. I didn’t find any slot reds today but landed sixsmaller ones. The fishing would slowabout 8 and then pick up again for a short time when the wind picked up. Landed4-8 a day, spooked many more, broke off a couple, just took pictures of someand lost a few. Didn’t see a lot oftailing, more backing on the flats and shorelines and schools chasing bait indeeper water. The schools were chasingshrimp and schools of “pin fish”. Caught them all on white shrimp fly and spoonfly. A few more months till fall!!

Great pictures - very inspiring. Just headed back to Houston after two weeks in Colorado (report pending). While I fish there with my fly rod exclusively, I've never busted it out in Galveston. Looks like this fall is a good time to give it a go. Thanks for the report.
