  • Shimano CI4 and Cumulus Rod

I decided to try a spinning rig out. Got the Shimano CI4 with a 6'10" Cumulus rod. This is the lightest rig I have ever felt. Despite my getting used to a spinning rig it cast very well. Unfortunately the fish didn't cooperate that well today but did manage to get some fish goo on it.......

I have a CI4 on a 7' FTU IM8 rod. Very light rig, good casting distance even with lighter jig heads. Drag is very smooth, it got a workout on some reds this weekend. We'll see how it holds up over time. I have other Shimano Stradic reels and work them hard - I am optimistic the CI4 will be a good one. I got a good deal on the FTU rod - not my favorite but not a throwaway either. If the CI4 becomes my go to reel, I may look at a custom rod for it. Need to save my nickels!
