  • Yamaha 115 2 stroke oil issues..??

    ok,
so i sent by boat to the shop and got a carb job done about 3 or 4 months ago, since then the motor smoked really bad like it was getting too much oil, I finally investigated it and found that the connecting rod from the carb to the oil feeder/pump on the motor was not connected, therefore, giving the motor full on oil all the time. I corrected that problem and a couple trips later I get a low oil alarm... i checked the reserve oil tank on the motor and it was low, I turned on the key and hit the primer switch and nothing happened, I had to manually fill the tank with oil.

I read somewhere that there is a tilt/trim switch that, when the motor is tilted up, the oil pump will not come on.
I checked this switch, not extensively yet cuz of the rain, but the little plastic switch stop is broken, I know i need to replace that part. but how do I test the switch??

Is there an easy way to determine exactly which part is not working without taking the boat to the shop??

It's the pump on the reserve tank that's out. They go bad pretty regularly

I pulled the tank and the pump off of the tank, sure enough it is the pump, got one on order. iboats.net is the way to go on parts, that's for sure.
