  • Jamaica Beach Under water lights

The light have been terrible this year a Jaiaica Beach.......Either no fish or just some smallish specs. Have not caught any reds under the lights. Anyone having any luck with the lights this summer?

If you want any with good size you are going to have to use finger mullet or croakers.

We're heading down to Jamaica beach to a canal house with underwater lights next week. Will post an update after we give it a shot. Anyone else tried it lately?

We ended up fishing in the canal most of last week on Tues-Fri. The wind picked up Fri and made things tough Fri night and Sat morning before we left. Before that though, the fishing was great. During the day we caught specks, sand trout, redfish, sheepshead, and surprisingly few hardhead. The kids also had fun catching tons of piggy perch under the dock. At night we were surrounded by neighbors with lights, but it became obvious the fish preferred certain lights for some reason. There were 4 lights within casting distance, but they seemed to prefer the one directly across the canal from us. We could see tons of trout in them each night, especially when you got on the upper deck and looked down. Anyway, live shrimp freelined on a plain hook did the trick. Caught a bunch of nice sand trout and a few keeper specs as well. Once the wind picked up on Fri, it seems to chase them out of the lights, but while it was calm they were plentiful and hungry.
