Me and Jhua decided to head back up to trinity. We kindof spread out through the bay the past few weeks to see what spots of ours were on. Today we decided to go where we knew the fish were and have a good time catching not experimenting. We targeted reds in some back waters and ended the day with well over 15 reds most over 25inches all over 22.
We started by working the areas where the flats met the channels with spinnerbaits. Once we had worked the perimeter of the flat we moved up onto it with trout killers and hackberrys. We hit 5-6 flats then kindof had to backtrack. We moved out to a gut that emptied into one of the deep channels and began chunking spinnerbaits. We picked up a few fish there and things started to slow down again. I scanned the water and saw a huge body cruising right in front of me. Impulse kicked in well before I knew what I was doing and before I knew it I was getting towed around by something big. I fought the fish for awhile and almost got spooled on a few occasions before the fish got up to the boat. As the title hints to it was a big ugly. Fun fight on light tackle but unfortunately the big beast running all over the area seemed to shut down what action we had going, so we went ahead and called it a day.
