Used to in fresh water but mostly spooks here in the salt. They do make a spook with a scooped nose but i havent tried one yet.

All jokes aside, I occasionally use one. Best results came on a flat when it was raining. I couldn't hook up with my SS jr or SS even though the trout were blowing up on it like crazy.

It's a very exciting way to catch reds. Usually one big pop, let it sit, then a twitch when they come behind it. I like orange or bronze colored bodied poppers with a yellow tail.

I just watched an episode where Larry Dahlberg was making them out of hard foam. Really makes me want to try fishing poppers on fly for reds!

I’ve been reading FWE post for a few years now and have readtime and time again someone posting they have become a top water addict I justwonder why this phenomenon hasn’t made it to the fly fisher side!

Top Water Popper!

I saw a post on tos that showed them being made from flip flops with a plug cutter. I've got a cork cutter that would probably work even easier.

Yes. fish need to be in the right frame of mind though. I typically go with gurglers as they are easy to tie. I like fishing puching and popping flies to fish with their backs out.
