  • Time to replace sacrficial anode?

How do you tell when its time to replace?
    Anually?
    Visually?
    ???
I asked the dealer to give a new one because mine is pitted and I thought this was the way to tell but he said it was fine and that they actually last a long time. He said he waits until they almost start wearing away.

I always thought the pitting was supposed to be like a visual indicator of what the inside passages are looking like so whats the deal.

My motor is only a season and a half old with less than average use and it has never missed a fresh water flush.

    One more question.

Underway at speed the boat wants to pull to starboard.
Has anyone ever had luck bring the steering back to a nutural condition
by turning the anode into the direction of the turn?

If you didn't have the anode thats what your inside passages would look like. Its a softer metal than your engine so electrolisis eats it up instead of your engine.

Sounds like you need to adjust your anode and angle it more to port so you track straighter. You need to
counter act prop spin. Where / what position is the anode/ dial thingy set at now?

Mine fell off after two years!

The aft part of the stem is on the port side just a little off center. This means if you are standing behind the prop the anode is just barley pointing to the starboard bow corner.
Mechanic advised I turn it the opposite direction, to position the trailing part of the anode to the side the boat pulls to.
I'm getting the rig out today to spend this evening hunting the flats at SLP tonight and will postion the anode then.
I think it's going to work.

Adjusted mine for a couple of hours when I first bought my boat used. Come to find out, trimming the motor up after reaching plane is all that was needed. Now, I never lower the motor all the way and the problem is gone. I don't know how to explain, but I lower it until it changes sound and speed of lowering. That is all it was. Good luck.

Adjust your anode and the problem will go away.. You may need to adjust it several times to get it right..
