  • A Flounder poem

I bet no one ever wrote a poem for the brutish Red Fish or the slasher trout
because Southern Flounder are just so darn cool!

I love thee because giggin's like huntin'
I love thee because your eyes on one side is cute as a button
I love thee because you are fearless like Indiana Jones
I love thee because you have a lot of meat on your bones
I love thee because you think you are such a bad *** layin there all stealthy
I love thee because I need my Omega 3 and my momma said eat'n fish is healthy
I love thee because you are the ultimate bait fish trapper
I love thee because you aren't half mouth, fins, and guts like the "endangered" red snapper
I love thee because you make a yummy seafood dish
I love thee because you don't taste like fish
I love thee winter, spring, fall and summer time
I love thee because thy flesh is divine
I love thee with my favorite ales
I love thee because you have almost no scales
I love thee because you lay there all stupid and I don't have to move quickly
I love thee because your fins are not prickly
I love thee because I can catch you in the rivers, bayous, and bays
I love thee because you are easy to make boneless fillets
I love thee because you lay there and wait
I love thee because to catch you I don't need gas or bait
I love thee because you have the most beautiful brown spotted coat
I love thee most of all because I'm broke, and can't afford a boat.

Not that much different than a Karankawa indian hunting the shallows at night with a torch and a spear.

A little Flounder gigging Haiku for you to.

    Black of night.

    Glare of light.

    The gig falls.

Wait, this fails as a Haiku.
I think the amount of sylables is wrong. Frick!

Thank you very much and I must say, the appreciation and unpretentiousness
this forum and it's members have is awesome.

I posted this on 2 un-cool (you know how much heavy traffic that place has) and it has one reply from a kid telling me I need to go fishing. HA!

Coe, I hope this web site stays kinda small because if it ever gets to big for it's britches and gets all politicaly correct like the ladder. I'm outta here and I'm gonna start my own "Texas Pok'em" forum. It's sound like something I should do regardless.

This is the only Texas forum I have found that has a gigging sub-forum.
Stout gigs and clear waters to all of ye mateys!

                Yeah, I'm drinkin...Saint Arnolds's Oktoberfest, skunky!

Ah, your last sentence reveals the source of such eloquence.

That might be the greatest work of art I have seen in a long time. With your permission I would like to have this stiched on a nice quilt or doily and then hung somewhere prominant in the fishing trailer. You add class and sophistication to this website and all of us are better now beacuse of it...thank you.
