After working all night, and missing the alarm clock after a quick 2 hour nap, I was awakened by Johns call and leaped into groggy action. My head in a fog, grabbed every kind of warm clothes I could think of, the rods, and another stash of corkys and hauled butt to pick Havens up and make it to Matagorda. Arriving in Matagorda around noon, I was pleased to see the boat, which had been put up for 3 months, actually started. We made it down the ICW and found a shoreline teaming with bait, we idled in and proceeded to wade throwing corky fatboys in pink or pearl/chartreuse. It soon became apparent that P&C was the go to color as Havens hooked up on a nice red, I was still searching.
Havens then moved off the shoreline and promptly scored a trout, a nice but not overly fat 28 that scored right at 7.5#s.
Well he had his...now where was mine!
I went back for the boat and poled down the shoreline looking for reds while John continued to work the mud and shell out, never moving from one place. After resetting the Stakeout Stik, I slid in and made my way down the shore to area that I had seen some bait being thrashed earlier. This is where I decided to "Plant it"! A couple dozen drags later I scored on a nice, not overly plump unfortunately, 26"er that barely went 5.25#s. After that I scored a few more in the 22"range...all on corky fatboys in P&C. John had just as many or more...all C&Red for another day.
Here are a few pics from the day, as we fished until dark, and watched the sunset on Paul Browns primo corky lure!
