  • Keel-less Decoys

Would a decoy with no keel have better action in calm water? Obviously they would flip if it was rough, but it seems like they would move better in a light wind.

With end-of-season prices on decoys, I was thinking of buying up a few dozen more, and experimenting with cut keels or trimmed-down keels.

    Anyone know anything about this?

      Milkjug....

We do this a lot to our dekes. I have a couple dozen for walk-in spots only or small timber holes or any other hole that doesn't catch a lot of wind. All you have to do is trim th keel down enough so that only the part that holds the string/weight down is still there. Those dekes will move in the slightest of winds and if you have to walk-in a long distance it will save your back!
