Went down to Galveston with an old friend of mine late Thursday afternoon. When we got on the water the wind was pretty strong out of the SE. Our first wade my buddy caught a 21” Red, but where we were didn’t appear to be holding sufficient bait. We move across the bay and found birds working hard on what appeared to be small shrimp. I noticed a small slick form so we jumped out of the boat proceeded to wade. I was throwing a large top water, but it was so windy that it was skipping on the white caps. I put on a pink Devil, and my first or second cast I saw my rod tip shake. I knew a fish was on so I reeled down to set the hook, but all I got was some slack line…….the fish was coming at me. When I set the hook I knew I had a really big fish. When I saw the black back come to the surface it was panic time knowing I had the one hook Devil on. No telling how many circles I made trying get the fish near me. My friend was laughing is arise off at me. Finally I crabbed hold and landed one of my best trout ever in Galveston. Holding it up to my rod it appeared to be 28”. This fish’s girth must have been 16”. It was a beautiful trout. We took some pictures and let it swim away.
