Reel for Surf Rod

I aquired a 10' surf rod (barter/trade) from a good friend of mine's Dad this past October. Actually felt guilty about sealing the deal since he told me he had it for thiry five years, especially when my friend later told me that it was custom made. Either way I'm now the proud owner and I need to get a reel on this baby and hit the surf. I was over at FTU today they have some refurbished Penn reels ranging from $15 to $50 ....the choices are Penn No 49, Penn No 85 (narrow spools) and a Penn No 309 w/levelwind.
Anyone familiar with these reels? Suggestions?
BTW all my tackle is light, this is my first surf Rod.

level wind is nice but if your looking for casting distance I'd go with the other two just b/c the level wind will make you lose some distance casting, at least that's what I've been told.
