  • replacing treble hooks with single

anybody tried replacing treble hooks on hard lures with single hooks?

  • #2
All the time. I fish all my top water spook jrs with Treble on the front and single on the back. Best of both worlds. Very little grass hangs up on the back hook and front treble catches lot more fish than two singles unless the trout are really pissed at the bait.

Sunday had 25" trout hit my spook jr three times at about 20 feet. First two were just a tap, then pop in the air, then killed the bait. Both hooks were in tight. Measured/ Gave her a kiss/ few seconds to revive and off she went.

See McBride's article last summer on what he recomends for putting the right single hook on the right bait. If serious Bass Pro has the best deals on the Gam live bait hoos in 1/0, 2/0 3/0 and the bulk split rings are a deal too in the coastal or off shore brand. The #3 split rings are the right size and the 5's too. Academy 3's are way too small and the different brands of Bass Pro change sizes in a rediculus way from #3 to #3 by brand.
