A little late with this post but thought I'd share.
April 20th a buddy and I first started at daybreak on the marked kayak trails leading to matagorda bay. we used topwaters and gulps in the bay and some of the shorelines, only fish caught was a rat red.
We left the poor fishing quickly and decided to try live shrimp in the surf. The water was very flat, and very clear. Ended up finding a lot of sheepsheads and some decent redfish down on the bottom. Ended up catching around 9 redfish between the 2 of us, with six being keepers. We released the smallest of the keepers to try an catch a bigger one. Ended the day with 5 reds from 21-24", and one 18" sheepshead.
