  • Making Leaders

I have got on this kick of making leaders for trout, redfish, flounder etc, and experimenting with different designs. Does anyone know of a leader designed for bottom fishing on oyster shell? In other words a leader that would'nt get tore up when drug along the shell, etc? I am thinking of course of using leader wire and not mono. Has anyone tried this before?

If you're targeting trout I would loose the wire. Just use some strong fluorocarbon, maybe in the 25-30lb range.

You don't think it will weaken being dragged around in the oyster shell?

Nope you just change it when it gets buggered up,I attach my fluorocarbon leader with a blood knot to my mono.

25LB floro tied to my main line is what I use. I've tried tieable wire leader and had mixed results, I tend to use that stuff out at the jetties.
