  • Aransas Pass Sept 11, 2010

We have had rain, wind, more wind, all week, but Friday the wind started laying down and Saturday was a beautiful light breeze and clear to partly cloudy day. We (2 couples and myself) started off working the deep water reefs and picked up lots of nice size sand trout, gaff tops, a few keeper trout, but never could get a bite going. We moved around and tried several different places to no avail. So we pulled out and went red fishing, and have we got a story there. The ladies decided to have lunch so I put out 2 rods for them and just let them set as we are fishing the drop from bank to 3' of water. Not 3 minutes later a nice red picked up the back rod and one of the ladies did her best to get it in, it circled the back of the boat and was determined to get in the motor, and, to our disappointment, it cut off on the trim tabs. But in less than 45 seconds another rod goes off and after a short fight it came to the surface. The redfish looked like it was foul hooked, we genty worked it to the boat and netted it and discovered that it was not foul hooked but had line rapped around it twice and the hook was hooked on the main line, and hanging out of its mouth was the hook leader and line. It was the same redfish that we had broken off on the trim tabs shortly before. We never got another bite out of that hole so we moved to the flats and drifted and picked a nice trout and some dink trout and a 29 3/ 4'' red. It was one of the guys first tagged red fish. Thanks for a great time on the water and hope you enjoy your fish.
