  • High water reds.

Launched at Goose Island State Park at 1:45 this afternoon and headed across the water and cross country to Matagorda Island. The water was very high because of recent rains and the fish were scattered. We fished the lakes and the lake outlets on the island and did well with reds 21-24 inches. We used finger mullet for bait, fished dead and caught 6 reds in about 30 minutes, fifteen minutes in one spot and fifteen minutes in another spot.

My neighbor down the street is a fishing guide with an air boat and it sure makes catching fish easier than most people (myself included) can imagine. This was my first time in an air boat and I want one!

We were back home with the fish filleted and the boat washed and put away by 5:45.
Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.
