Chocolate Bayou 12/8
Well fellas, my wife let it be known that she feels I am fishing too much. Now how should I handle this? I know........
......put her on a 24" Chocolate Bayou Speckled Trout!!!!!!!!!
I had a vacation day to burn and chose Wednesday so I could pretty much have the bayou to myself. As I was leaving this morning, my wife asked if she could tag along for a couple of hours. I left ahead of her so I could get the boat in the water and having everything ready to go once she arrived.
We put in at Lutes and fished just across the bank while the motor warmed up. Once the motor was ready to go, we headed to spot number one. There was plenty of bait activity as well as larger fish busting the surface. We were throwing GULP jerk shad with little luck. She decided to switch her presentation and hooked up a Texas Rattlin Rig with a 3" white GULP shrimp. First cast, nothing. Second cast, cork is gone and rod is buckled over. The fish acted like a redfish in the begining until it came closer to the surface. The familiar speck head shake chattered the cork rig and I new it was going to be a big trout. The fish came to the surface and we were in disbelief. Neither one of us had ever caught a speck this big. I netted the fish and gave my wife a high five for her catch. I laid the fish across my measuring tape and it hit the 24" mark. I was overcome with "trout fever". My knees were injected with adrenaline and were visibly vibrating. A pic was taken and the fish was safely released back into the bayou.
The rest of the day only brought one trout an hour for the next 4 hours. The later only measured up to 15" max.
Take a look at my signature Current Best. Her best redfish is 28" and now her best speck is 24". She is whooping me out there.
