  • Aransas Pass area Jan 1, 2011

The temperature was in low 50's wind 15 - 20 knots out of north, water was out, and I began to feel like a kid, not a guide, because I couldn't get a bite going, except for perch and croakers. We worked guts with mud and shell that have been holding fish since Thanksgiving. The wind was too high to get into drop offs that should be holding fish, so we spent several hours working the mud and shell to no avail. Ok, time to go to plan 2, we moved back to flats and started thowing topwaters and plastics, we spooked up some fish but finally we managed to hook up 2 nice keeper reds on plastics. We ran back down and worked the same area again, but luck was not with us. We moved back to another flat and managed a 19 3/4'' red on top waters, but were still seeing reds, just couldn't get them to bite. We went back to the mud and shell and worked a area we didn't work this morning and managed a nice black drum and everyone caught several undersized reds to help make up for the long dry spell we started out on this morning. Thanks guys for a great time and look forward to having you back again. Hope you enjoy the fish on the half shell and have a safe trip back home.
