  • My Chocolate Bayou 2010 Recap

Well, it makes two full weekends in a row that we have stayed out of Chocolate Bayou. I fished the bayou as much as I could this year and have really tried to pay attention to it's phases and habits. I learnded many things that I am sure I could apply to other bodies of water as well. Here is a quick list of our experiences as they come to mind:

    * My wife had her rod bent in half twice by unknown fish
    * Tailing reds
    * I caught my first fish (speckled trout) on a topwater
    * My wife caught her biggest speckled trout - 24"
    * Caught specks under working birds
    * Caught my first limit of specks
    * Had a blast hearing my wife loudly MFing every ladyfish she hooked everytime they jumped around the jon boat
    * Taught my wife to fish with a jighead and lure
    * Took my Grand-Father fishing as my guest for the first time.
    * Wife caught her first flounder
    * Watched in disbelief as flounder chased bait all the way up to the surface
    * Saw a little boy kick his Mom out of the drivers seat so that he can properly back the truck up for his Dad
    * Wife learned how to back up the boat trailer at the ramp
    * Had some great conversations at the ramp
    * Had some great conversations on the water
    * Had some great conversations at Lutes
    * Got my first TPWD ticket
    * Forgot to put the plug in the jon boat and almost lost her
    * Saw my buddy catch his first redfish
    * Had some major fun with friends and family

All of the above was done north of the 2004 bridge in the span of a year. I can only imagine some of the memories that some of you old Chocolate Bayou salts could tell. As a matter of fact, lets hear them.

I can't wait to see what 2011 has in store. This will be the year I concentate on Chocolate Bay as well.
