  • Rattlesnake... IN West Bay

Thanks to rwasaff for providing these photos...

Here is the original e-mail he CC'd me on:

"I was cruising near MUD cut next to a bunch a wade fisherman and come across this guy……How would you like to be out wading and come back to your boat with this guy in it. This guy wanted in the boat."

This is another reason why Sadie (my lab) is given the rattle snake vaccine twice per year and also a booster before hunting season. You never know when a Sand Rattler will bite...

Remember to keep Benadryl on the boat especially if your out in the marsh with your dog.

Funniest thing. After the hurricane the donkeys were out and chasing the coyotes. hahahaha

I have seen several snakes while drifting in Chocolate and one large sucker at our bay house recently. They were not rattlers, but I am still a firm believer a good snake is a dead one! BTW, don't tell my wife I said that because is use to have 2 boas and loves all animals.

I ran across a rattlesnake in Chocolate last year swimming in open water and a few weeks ago saw a 4-5 ft one sunning on a bank in the channel going into Lost lake.

Several years ago my dad and I had a water mocasson fall into our boat in Halls Bayou. Scared the hell out of us until we got it out!

Never seen one in the water, but have run across a few in the dunes around SLP. That would be no fun running into kayaking either, hope I can paddle faster than he can swim!

Last year a big (6' +) gator was on north shore just west of Caranchua Cut-at first thought it was a log until it started swimming. It was about 100 yards out into the bay. Ya never know what's swimming near ya!!!

My buddy had a Moccasin crawl up his trolling motor trying to get into his boat. He beat the sheet out of his trolling motor trying to keep it out. The trolling motor ended up in about a hundred pieces.
