Saturday my boat lift cable snapped and my boat fell about 2 feet while raising it. My cables are about 10 years old (stainless steel).
You may want to look at your lift cables. I generally checked mine EXCEPT the port side cables-I would use the starboard side cables to hold onto while getting in/out of the boat and did not get stuck/stabbed by any loose wires. Had I checked the left side cables, I would have noticed that it was fraying and cut the heck outta my hand-the back rear left cable had frays all up and down it. I was lucky it was the rear cable that snapped because when the boat fell, it went towards the canal and not into the bulkhead. If it went into the bulkhead, it would have crushed the front of the boat and probably busted a hole in my bulkhead. It fell about 2 feet with engine first but didn’t go under water-the front slid off the strap as it fell. Also, never stand or let anyone stand near cable pulleys while lifting or lowering-when that cable snapped, it wound around the center pole and if I was standing near the back strap on port side it woulda cut the sheit outta me. I replaced all my cables and the straps Sunday and it works great.
Just an FYI.
