  • Man gets flesh eating bacteria on Galveston's West End

    All FWE Anglers,
Just a reminder, don't get in the water with any open wounds.

A 50-year-old man's leg was amputated after he contracted a flesh-eating bacteria during a beach trip in Galveston County.

Especially if you have a compromised immune system...I believe the gentleman is a diabetic.

You can carry Bleach on the boat to pour on a cut or wound you may receive while on the water.

So how many of you will stay away from wading if you have an open wound?

I personally always seem to have some kind of scratch or gash or something from being the clumsy @$$ I am...is it a big risk if your immune system isn't under duress (HIV positive or diabetic or something else)?

I recently heard of a young man getting the virus on his feet while wading at Surfside. No open wounds either. He developed a rash quickly after getting out of the water. By that evening he was feeling sick so they went to the ER. After some serious antibiotics and creams he seems to be doing better.

Luckily I have a boat and will be fishing from the inside of it!
