  • Offshore in a small boat tips

I have a 19' boston whaler montauk and I am itching to fish near shore. Maybe out 5 to 10 miles. Any suggestions ideas...all are welcome. Am I crazy to go out in that size a boat. I have been entirely bay and ICW up till now.

Nah, I took the 20’ Robalo out 60 miles. Make sure you have all your safety gear. Cat I life jackets, Epirb or PLB, VHF etc.

Watch the weather closely and pick your days.
Might be better to trailer to Freeport as 10 miles offshore from there will get you into better fishing than 10 miles off Galveston.

I've got a 19ft Outrage...been about 35, and ktdtx is right, freeport gets you to better spots quicker. When you get to half a tank it's time to head in
