I was there for his seminar. Good info, okay... except... he gave away one of my personal best fishing spots. But he was informative, and a decent speaker.

Out there tonight, and I enjoyed Steve's Seminar. Funny that the only money I spent was on Booz and signing my three girls up for the STAR Tourney!

Fishman Spencer -Secrets of Kayak Fishing

My mental notes from "Fishman’s" secrets of kayak fishing seminar:
          • Whether you are 400 lbs. or 70 years old, or both, you too can fish from a kayak.
          • Everybody got a free safety whistle
          • A handful of lures is all you need for nearly year round fishing, his favorites include (but I didn't get all the names):
            • Soft lures (paddle tail Assassins) - Electric Chicken, Purple Canary, White Shads, Pumpkin Seed Yellow, some kind of special order shrimp color.
            • Top water lures - Mirrolure 7m (red head n white) and just about anything lime green
          • Eyes on the top of the head of the lure for retrieves across oyster beds or grass to avoid snags. The lure will pitch up slightly.
          • Eyes in the nose for straight retrieves
          • Favors weightless, weedless, w/ screw attachment jigs for soft lures
          • Ferment your soft lures, for months, with catfish dough balls to permeate them with scent. Double or triple bag them.
          • Keep your boat anchor of a tackle box on shore, and just take a handfull of rigs and lures. Two rods is enough, too.
          • String redfish consistently along the right, top down through the area above lip through the lower jaw. The fish will live through the day and swim along as though schooled, on the stringer.
          • Cut half the float off the stringer so it sinks slightly below the water line to fool onlookers and keep your hole location secret (i.e. passing boat looks and sees stringer out with full float and exclaims, "hey they're catching them there")
          • First Aid kit - take one, some kits are sized larger than most needs.
          • He described a three eye rig with float offset so as not to interfere with your feel of the bait, setting the hook and smoother retrieve. The float line is shorter (i.e. 2’) than the hook leader (i.e. 3’), your reel line is connected to the third eye.
          • Try tubular soft lures socked over old spoons.
          • Trout chum by vomiting, to attract bait fish.
          • Muddied waters are indicators of redfish disturbing or digging into the bottom.
          • Redfish will school with mullet in search of smaller mullet
          • Like old men, older and bigger redfish will trail behind the school.
          • Cast along the edges of the school (and to rear, see above), don't cast into the center, so as not to scatter the pack.
          • Larger fish will be below the hard heads, croakers and smaller trout.
          • Ideal fish spawning and activity water temperature is 72 degrees.
I did not pay as much attention to the tips for documenting a possible record catch or the brief tips on rod preferences. My notes are not a complete summary, such as his description of a .38 shell in a rattler lure. Corrections (and comments) welcome.

That is probably the most complete set of notes I have ever seen on this board. Thank you for the insight!

Thanks, but I don't have to worry..... I don't think any police officer would be willing to wrestle me to the ground to cuff me and tazoring might just help my libido... so, it's all good.

something along those llines, few details left to sort, but I will have it ready by the next time I see you...

A true angler will fish in any conditions regardless and still has the belief that he will catch fish! That was not a really smart call on Thursday and I can't believe you still showed and stayed anyway!

Yep Chip-my buddy caught a 10.5 # trout in rain and near freezing. The next year almost exactly 1 week later at same spot he nailed a 8.5# in crappy conditions. The big girl was caught when it was so cold, the line was almost freezing. Nope, I aint telling the spot, but I believe it aint far from your home. That was in about 1982-he made the Chronicle-article was titled "Big Speck Specialist Lands Whopper", so I call him the "BS Specialist". He ate the 8.5# trout-now before some azzaaholey says that was wrong, remember, that was almost 30 years ago, he was kinda poor and meant dinner for a few days and was when Al Gore was still building and creating the INTERNET.
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary.
