Surf Fly Fishing

Anyone do any fishing in the surf with a fly rod?

I tried it a few times but ended up just always going back to my spinning rod or bait caster in order to get more casts and cover more ground. The floating fly line would always get caught on me or be pulled into shore from the wave action. I found it easier use a more conventional setup.

I have done it a couple of times. I had good luck last year at 11 Mile Road in my kayak. I got a decent catch of specs while the guys soaking shrimp were not catching much. Best fishing was the hour after sunrise in the first and second guts.
