Per my last thread I am itching to get started. I have done some reading and their are a lot of recommendations to start out with a pole spear. Does any one on here hunt here in TX with a pole spear? I was looking at 10 ft gat ku. I am thinking pole spear+ float to get started.

I have used them a lot before, but not anymore.
A pole spear is good because it makes you a better fish stalker and diver, as you have to get very close to them. It is no speargun though. -
No, i mean pole spear. Hawaiian slings are cool, but don't lend them selves to deep water free diving.Comment

Yep, that is pretty much the most common misnomer you will see.
Hawaiian sling is more like a slingshot for launching a freeshaft. You will hardly ever see them. Polespear is the common spear with the band attached to the back.Comment
