  • Hit the surf 10/1/17

Early morning hit the surf around 6:30a about 75th st on the seawall.
East wind, water choppy, 2' rollers and a nice sunrise.

Threw a Gulp 6" Electric Chicken on a Chartreuse 1/4oz jig head, various retrieves.
Had two nice hits, seemed to let go as I started to reel in, blame it on me
not sharpening my hooks out of the box. Have since bought a hook sharpener

They were there about 2nd gut, as i got deeper, the surf slammed me about, got my ipod wet,
and me too, even though I was in waders. Not swamped tho, lucky there.

It was a nice sunrise tho.....

    Thanks for the report.

Do you typically wear a manual inflatable life jacket while in the surf? Especially wearing waders?

No no manual inflatable life jacket, just never go out too far in waders,
this day the surf was up, 2-3 ft rollers, but I was only thigh deep.

If I think I am going to go out over my waist, I will go get a manual inflatable life jacket for sure.
Strong current here, must be aware at all times, or you might just be a statistic.
