  • State Water Snapper - 1/14/18

Reddish Rob and I took it easy getting down to SSM yesterday. We left the dock around 11:15am. We pushed out to 40 miles with nothing to show for the gas but huge red snapper to 25lbs. All were vented and released. I seem to consistently miss the AJ this time of year. Red snapper were thick all over the bottom spots we tried... rock piles, old wrecks etc. Perhaps I need to go a little deeper.

We headed back in with choppy seas and ran towards a couple of state water spots. We dropped 20 times picking out the ones that were legal. Squid was the bait of choice.
Our end result was a limit of state water snapper to save the trip.

We had our fish cleaned and back in town by 8pm. The world cat handled the waves pretty good. Definitely sloppy conditions!

The final 10-15 miles made us both very glad that we had installed the spray curtains.

I’m ready for a good window so that we can head out to the flower gardens.
