Nice rig, the fly rod is noted. This maybe a dumb question since I have not fly fished. Can you effectively cast with that full length fly rod while sitting in the yak?

I can... I learned on the rivers in Arkansas and Colorado then developed my own style off the dock in Galveston. My largest 3 trout (30", 31" & 33") have all been caught on fly off the dock

I really prefer to be slightly more elevated when casting (wading) so I can see the fish take the fly but no worries casting in the yak and I do it all the time.

So as you can see I don't have much rigging. Milk crate in the back, and I built a PVC flushmount extender to keep my reels further away from the splashing water.

That is good enough for me, and I just take whatever I need for whatever I am doing.

Nice. Don't mount your PVC to low like I did...... It's a real pain to put your pole behind you

I mentioned in MarkoChavs other thread about getting a narrower crate or basket from Big Lots that will fit more snug and lower in the hold. You'll find that reducing your profile to the wind will make a difference, both paddling and drifting.

Cut the sides off, trim to desired size, and use heavier zip ties to tie it back together. It won't be the prettiest but it will be very functional.
