  • Thursday surf fishing results

I was in the water before 7am Thursday morning...I decided to try a popping cork with live shrimp. I have never really done the popping cork thing but figured I would try anyhow. I didn't get much early on...the water was calm...some rollers and not much else...the water still looks a lil churned up. I was on the verge of switching techniques when I finally saw my cork dip below the water line...it wasn't an aggressive bite so I slowly put some tension on my line...let him run a lil bit and then set the hook...16" trout in the net. I proceeded to get sporadic hits just like the previous but the cool part every hit was a keeper trout...no hits in between. Nothing else was biting. My early morning session ended with 5 trout from 16"-18". I got hungry and tired so went back to the beach to relax a lil bit then decided to throw a plastic with a lil shimmer to it...no results so I switched it up to fishing off the bottom. Caught a whiting then the next cast I landed a 20" trout..but nothing after that session. So I take another break..grab some lunch...catch a buzz (because the beer is always biting). I went out for a late afternoon attempt fishing off the bottom once again..the seaweed was coming in because of the wind direction changing..figured I would avoid the mess. I was getting consistent hits..catching cats, whiting, a baby sand shark, a black drum that I wasn't sure was legal so I let him go and then bam a 20+" speck gave me a lil run but found a home in my net. It was successful day but I have never had that many fish come so random...usually when they are biting they are biting but it wasn't really like that...I bought a quart of shrimp and didn't even come close to using them all. I guess the fishing gods were looking over me yesterday lol
