Obama's "Plan for Texas"
In response to all the questions about how President Obama’s American Jobs Act would play out, the White House released a state-by-state report about the potential impacts of the proposed legislation.
Here’s how Obama says it might look in Texas:
•Transportation infrastructure investments of at least $2.59 billion that could support at least 33,800 local jobs
•$2.56 billion to support up to 39,500 educator and first-responder jobs
•$2.33 billion to modernize public schools and support up to 30,300 jobs
•$114 million to revitalize and refurbish local communities
•$458 million to modernize facilities at community colleges
•Expanded payroll tax cuts for individuals–A typical household in Texas, with a median income of around $47,000, would receive a tax cut of around $1,460
•Payroll tax cuts for 390,000 firms
•Unemployment insurance reforms to help 329,000 jobless Texans transition to the workplace
•Unemployment insurance extensions for the 123,900 Texans who would lost benefits in the first six weeks
•A Pathways Back to Work Fund for to train and place 8,700 adults and 29,200 youths in jobs in Texas
So how does Obama want to pay for all this?
“To ensure that the American Jobs Act is fully paid for, the president will call on the Joint Committee to come up with additional deficit reduction necessary to pay for the Act and still meet its deficit target. The president will, in the coming days, release a detailed plan that will show how we can do that while achieving the additional deficit reduction necessary to meet the president’s broader goal of stabilizing our debt as a share of the economy,” the White House report said.
