  • Death of Common Sense

    An Obituary Printed in the Kansas City Star:

    “Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

    1. -Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
    2. -Why the early bird gets the worm;
    3. -Life isn't always fair;
    4. -Maybe it WAS my fault, and
    5. A penny saved is a penny earned

    Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

    His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place.

    E.g: Reports of a 6 year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

    Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

    He declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted an abortion.

    Common sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

    Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in our own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

    Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

    Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and his son, Reason.

    He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers:
    1. -I Know My Rights
    2. -I Want it Now
    3. -Someone Else Is To Blame
    4. -I'm A Victim

    Not many attended the funeral because so few realized he was gone......

    I've seen this many times over the years. Unfortunately, Common Sense was never as common as we hoped it was. Looking back at history, it only appeared when things had gone so wrong and society was wrecked that we were desperate enough to turn to it for answers. The inherent selfishness and laziness or entitlement society can only lead toward Socialism/Communism/dictatorship. As people want more for "free" without working for it, they become dependent upon and therefor addicted to "government assistance". In the end, they become controlled by that which "We the People" are supposed to be controlling. The "Sheeple" think a bigger, more controlling government is the answer to all problems because they refuse to believe that "We the People" have the capability to solve them. The "Nanny State" is an example of this. Should we really need to be reminded that coffee is hot?

    People's refusal to take charge of their own decisions and blame others for their mistakes is leading the way toward a "Rock Bottom", when most of us will again see the light. Out of necessity, we will again turn to "Common Sense" to drag us out of the situation. Similar to an addict who must hit absolute rock bottom to see that they need to change, society is headed in the same direction. It's cyclical and has happened a thousand times. All we can do is our part and be an example to others. The seeds we plant will bear fruit at some point in the future. As an optimist, I hope it is sooner rather than later.

      All I know, is it isn't my fault.

      By the way, do I use my lighter or a match to check my gas level in the gas tank?
      "Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.

        I like the common sense guidelines of the 14 day quarantine of anybody sneaking over the border from Louisiana and think it should stay in force indefinitely don’t you Robalo? LOL

          Does this mean I'm stuck here and can't visit family EVER? Or are you calling for my deportation? I've got a green card, I promise.
