No bottom fishing on this trip .... unless you want to drop 1000+ feet ....

the big reels they provide the minimum gear to let bait drift away from the boat

BV and Nansen are both about 3600-3700 ft, so bottom dropping would be quite a chore LOL

Man, I would like to try this out. Can't commit, but I am interested.

Hooked a yellowfin once on a topwater and it was quite a sight. Too bad it came off in about 2 seconds. I wonder if I could find a big spinning setup to borrow....

HI would really appricate, getting a list of gear for one of these Big E trips.

I think my fenwick 640 rod would hold up to those big tuna with no problem. It is one of the old fenwicks that is solid. I can barely bend that thing putting all of my weight into it. I figure that with my big penn offshore reel and i should be good with the 250lb kevlar line i have spooled on it. Of course i did have a big shark off Galveston a few years ago break that line. We estimated he was probably about 10 ft.

Yep ...trip got cancelled....boooo ...oh well
I signed up for a private charter for next year in October for a 4 days .... should be fun as we are going to run to the Green Canyons off of LA ....looking for Big Eye Tuna ..

                            BTW
Your rod should work, but I have to admit, if anything were to test it, a few yellow fin would be the ones ....
