There have been some quality fish caught in the afternoons this week during the strong incoming tide. The water clarity has cleared up too much for my liking, but the flounder are still hitting artificial baits such as tandem rig Gulps in chartreuse. Although the really "lively" finger mullet have been producing some big fish. The fish are stacking up good in the barge and crew/pilot boat slips and I do not think the run will end anytime soon. I'm just now starting to see the bigger fish that I normally catch in late October through November.
Both days I fished for a couple hours from about 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and it was lights out action. The southerly winds made it interesting crossing the channel, but the protected waters were holding a lot of big fish. I have been anchoring in the deeper water (about 12 feet) and fishing the deep drop-offs along the bulkheads.
My outing on 12/13/12 resulted in a limit of flounder and redfish. The biggest red was a pig for 27". All of the reds were caught on live finger mullet. The flounder were caught on the typical "curly tail tipped with a finger mullet" setup. On 12/13/12, I made 5 casts and caught a limit of nice flounder including 6.5 lb and 7.2 lb slabs. They made the smallest 16" fish on my stringer look like a baby!
Here are some shots from the past couple days.
