Finally got to go fishing this morning after about 3 weeks of being landlocked. Went out very early to beat the heat. Launched at 5:30 AM and was off the water by 8:00 AM.
Water level appeared to be low in the early morning. Water clarity was not very good around Seabrook, but there were tons of shad and finger mullet schooled up and occasionally getting busted. The trout fishermen were catching solid trout on live shrimp under popping corks over deep reefs. I was just focused on flounder today.
I fan casted around a bulkhead and picked up a limit of flounder. Bait of choice was a 3" Gulp shrimp in pearl white and chartreuse. The fish were scattered along the drop off leading to a boat channel. All fish were holding on mud bottom with scattered shell along the bulkhead. Some of the fish were caught about 20 feet away from the bulkhead in about 8 feet of water, while a couple were caught right up against the bulkhead in 2 feet of water. Best action was around sunrise.
The tide seemed weak today, as there was not much vertical or horizontal water movement. The ship traffic was about the only thing keeping the water moving. I didn't stay too long so the tide may have started moving later in the day.
