My dad and I went fishing at my work's property near the Ferry Landing. The idea was to avoid the crowds around Seawolf, but I guess everybody else had that same idea too now that the flounder bag limit is back to 5. I've never seen the place so crowded.
We fished the strong incoming tide from sunrise to 11:00 AM. It started off slow during slack low tide and we only saw people around us catching a few 14" to 16" fish. We were using my go-to setup for singling out bigger flounder. H&H 8" curly tail lures on a 1/4 oz jighead tipped with large frozen finger mullet or small whole sandtrout preferably frozen (if you can catch some). The trick is to use bait that is between 6"- 8". Anything smaller will tempt a smaller flounder to strike. H20 jigheads are my favorite, they are very sharp, stout and have a wide gap for tipping large baits.
The 5 biggest flounder went 4.0 lbs, 4.2 lbs, 6.8 lbs, 7.4 lbs, and 8.1 lbs and were caught throughout the morning during incoming tide. Our limit of flounder were from 18" to 25.5". The fishing was more of a grind, but when we got bites, they were good fish. Seemed like the fish were moving through in small schools consisting mostly of 16"-18" fish with maybe 1 or 2 bigger fish mixed in.
