Moon: Waxing Gibbous (3/4 Full)
For the 2nd weekend in a row, my brother and I have gotten into a nice mess of tasty flounder.
This trip, I resisted the temptation to tie on a topwater even though trout were busting bait all around me. I tied on a 4" white paddle tail and worked the shorelines. After about 20 minutes without a single bite, I was about to give up and chase the trout, but then... THUMP.... hookset... first flounder on the stringer... 16.5". Next cast, an undersized trout (trash fish... shook him off the hook ). Next cast, I got hung up on a rock or an oyster or something but I wasn't about to walk to my lure to retrieve it because I didn't want to spook the fish.
So, I broke of my paddle tail and tied on a plum/chartreuse 5" assassin. That was the ticket. I don't know what it is about that bait, but for the last 2 weeks the flounder have just been inhaling it.
Within the next 20-30 minutes, I finished my limit... mostly 16-18" flounder with a nice 20" fatty. I then called my brother over... and he knocks out his limit, too.
Since that was the most flounder action allowed by law, we decided to go after some trout. We were nowhere near as successful. We only ended up with one kicker 17 incher.
But all in all, a great day. Learned a lot and I don't have to wait until October to have fried flounder!
