Launched at the causeway about 6:30am with Camo in my nephew's Majek RFL and headed for some good bait soakin holes. Seeing lightning off to the East I decided we better stick close just in case. Nothing happening at the first spot but a few undersize fish so we moved about 1/2 mile and found the same thing. Started to rain and was looking pretty bad so I told Camo we needed to head in. Reluctantly he gave in and we ran back to the causway. As we pulled under he said "Look dad, this looks like a good spot and it isn't raining under here". I couldn't resist a few more tries so we anchored off and chunked out some friskies.
He was losing bait as fast as I could bait his lines. I kept 2 rods going for him and just kept switching them out for him. He caught a good variety of fish.
Grunt? He said it was a girl black drum because she had pretty cheeks and later told Tina that it was a girl because it had makeup on it's cheeks. We all died laughing at that! He caught trout, Sheepies, Hardheads, Gafftop and then wham......Big fish on. He was fighting and I thought he had a big sheepie, but I saw it surface about 20' from the boat and it was a big trout, 23-25 and I got excited. She made a long run ripping drag, ran around a piling and then was gone. He sat dejected for a minute and then said that there must be some more big ones out there......give me another shrimp!
A couple of minutes later he was hooked up again with another drag ripper and I thought it was another big trout. He finally got it up to the boat and it was his first keeper red at 21". He was PUMPED the rest of the day. We finally gave up and headed back in soaked to the bone and smiling all the way in!
What a way to spend my birthday!
I got home and Tina gave me a Nook Color.....Nice!
Then lunch with the family!
