Josh and Clint’s Catch
54 seconds ago One Windy DayToday , I had the pleasure of having new customers on my boat that were sent my way via a few friends. It was a brutally windy day, but it turned out to be fairly productive.
With winds forecast to be east at 13 to 16 all day, I was fairly comfortable that we would find the fish in the same place I left them yesterday. So at 0600, Josh and Clint arrived ready to go fishing. As soon as we had a touch of daylight, we headed out for the day.
The best course today was going to be fishing live shrimp under midcoast corks fishing over shell in 3’ to 5’ of water. We hit the spot I had caught them yesterday and it was only a few casts before we had a a good fish on.
Over the course of the next few hours, we had alot of hits , alot of misses and several nice fish in the box. We had alot of take downs, a few big break offs and some fish that just came unbottoned.. Not a bad way to start the day.
We kept at it as the wind increased to over 25 and we decided to take a little rest from the brutal waves in the main bay, so we headed to one of the lakes to try a little less rough water. We get back and set up on a drift over an area I know well and within minutes we had the first fish on. The fish in this lake were in 3’ of water. We caught quite a few small trout and reds, but they were barely under keeper size so after about an hour we decided to head back in search of some bigger fish.
The wind was really kicking now, well over 20 sustained gusting to over 30 which makes it unconfortable at times, so we did one or two more drifts and called it a day at noon.
Total for the the day was:
20 redfish ( 3 retained- 7 just barely under 20)
12 Trout ( 4 retained )
All in all not a bad day in 25 to 35MPH winds.
