  • 6/14/10 report from West Bay

Summer has definatly arrived and boy is it getting hot out there on the
water. The wind was starting to give us a break early in the week but
jumped right back up int the 15 to 20 knot range mid and late week.
Fishing started off hot at the begginning of the week with some solid
Trout being caught near the San Luis Pass and surrounding areas. But high
winds started hurting our numbers mid week. We have been catching alot of
Trout in the 3 to 5lb range throwing a mix of topwaters and soft plastic
Bass Assassin lures rigged on 1/8 ounce lead heads. Chartreuse/pearl She
Dogs, Chrome/blue back She Dogs, Bone Super Spook Jrs., and
Chartruese/silver/pearl (Jimmy Houston pattern) Super Spooks have been the
top producers for me in topwaters. Working sandbars near deeper guts
around the San Luis Pass has offered up some great topwater action.
Looking for areas holding alot of rafting Mullet and Trout slicks has been
paying off really well. When the wind is light the open bay reefs have
been having alot of action too. Early in the morning the topwater action
has been great aslong as there are slicks popping up around these reefs.
Find reefs with slicks and we find fish! The best producer on the open
shell pads have been soft plastic type baits. Firetiger, plum/char, Bone
Diamond, Chicken on a chain, and Red Shad have all been producing some
    good fish.
When the wind has been blowing I have been spending my time in the coves
searching for Reds and Trout. The coves in West Galveston Bay have been
holding lots of Reds with some descent sized Trout. In the the last 2
weeks we have scored 3 Trout over 5lbs in the coves, including one Trout
this past Friday that measured 27" and was just shy of 7lbs caught by Alex
    L. (TTU WADER) This Trout was his new personal best.
For the next 2 months I will be spending a great deal of time running
jetty trips at the Galveston jetties. These jetty trips will offer up some
great summer time action for quick limits of Trout. This is fast action at
it finest for all ages. Jetty trips are live Shrimp or arties only! No Croakers
Reports to come very soon on the jetty bite.

    Thanks for the report AP.
The forecasts call for less winds this week.
I'm planning a mid week trip to the coast,......I had about all this "Green Acres" living I can stand for now.
Chunkin and windin is mo fun than mowin and mo mowin.
I even started to consider Moonpies suggestion of getting goats. LOL

                  Hey Greg,
Great Report!!! From what I've seen in the last three weeks that pattern has followed pretty good for mid West Bay also. Good luck on the Jetty trips. I may be out there with my dad this coming weekend. Hopefully we'll tie on a couple of limits for Fathers day weekend.

                  Tight lines

Thanks for the report. I've remembered that you head out to the jettys, and away from the coves during the summer.
                      Cheers!
