Here is a compilation video of footage I took over the last few weeks. All of the footage has one central theme skinny water fly fishing for redfish in the marshes around the upper Texas coast. And when I say skinny I generally mean water less than 1′ deep.
Most of the places I have frequented recently are much too shallow for most boats to reach and the kayak has been the perfect tool for gaining access to these fish that are usually unmolested. Because of the low tides that are common this time of year, there has been times when it has been too shallow for even a kayak to operate efficiently, but the redfish don’t seem to mind as long as the enough water to cover their eyes and bait is in the vicinity, as you will see in the video.
It has been sight and fly fisherman’s dream here on the upper coast lately. Big schools of redfish eating anything in their path (see video——> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZKJvl_yUl8 ). And when the redfish are not schooled up, single upper slot or oversized redfish have been abundant in the backwaters looking for an easy meal.
