  • 10/11/11 kayak report

Launched at lutes around 8am and worked my way down the bayou. Water at lutes was fresh on top. I started throwing a mullet skitterwalk and bass assassin with other rod. Lots of mullet in bayou. Did not get first blow until I was past horseshoe marina. Lots of small trout hitting topwater mixed in with a rat red. At the bubble barrier I met a mad family of river otter hisses at me. Very cool. Also snuck up on a racoon in the same area. Missed a lot of blow ups but fun to see them go after it. Finally got the first keeper past the barge entrance on a point in front a cove. Kept working my way down toward the bridge. Ended getting a 23' trout on top near the bridge in entrance of a cove. Just throwing into schools of mullet. So ended day with 2 keepers and a lot of throwbacks. Most fish caught on topwaters. Water was salty past the bubble barrier.

Good info and nice topwater speck.

I saw my first bayou otter last week. It surprised the heck out of me.

Nice going. I had Orville the Otter stealing my bait-he'd swim into my bait barrel and be like Moonpie at the Golden Corral Buffet!!

Never would have imagined it. I've fished there since 1984 and never seen an otter in brazoria county.
                      Guess you never know.
I have seen lotsa pigs and a few bobcats over near where you were fishing.

Otters are fairly common in Galveston Bay-Yan had one almost playing at his feet one day. I had one hanging at my dock for over a month-my neighbor took some pics of him swimming in our bait barrels munching on shrimp-sure was a cute little bait thief.
