Headed back down south last weekend for round 2 in the Lower Laguna Madre and had a blast. Fished Friday, Sat, and Sun and got limits of trout every day. Caught em on worms and some on topwaters. Mostly waded but did catch a few drifting. I was expecting it to be crowded with the Shallow Sport tourney going on, but it wasnt nearly as bad as I thought it would be. We still caught plenty of fish and never had any boats cut us off or get too close.
Found some redfish also. Friday morning after getting our limits of trout I decided to wade up to the shoreline to see if any reds were there and I quickly found what I was looking for.... slot reds in calf deep water with thier noses down and tails and backs sticking out of the water. Sight casted to them with a gold spoon and had my 3 pretty quickly. I love those reds up shallow.
Look at the pic of the clear water down there. The east side of the Laguna is crystal clear with huge grassbeds and scattered sand pockets. I took the pic of a sand pocket while standing in the boat in about 4' of water. Simply amazing that this is a bay system in Texas. Im headed back down this Thursday for my last trip of the month. Cant wait!!
